Conversation. The first step to begin a commission piece is a conversation. We’ll talk about what you’re looking for in your piece, and go through a few questions together, like: What are some particular aspects of my work that you are drawn to? Are there certain colors or details you’d like to see (or not see) in your commission piece? Do you have a budget? What is your timeline?
Contract. Once I’ve gotten a clear idea of what sort of piece to create for you, I’ll write up an agreement. It will include the characteristics of the piece, the size, price, deadline, and other details. Once this is signed and a non-refundable 50% deposit is made, I will begin work on the piece.
Updates. As I work on your piece, I’ll send photos to update you on the progress. I encourage your feedback during this stage, since this is the best time for me to make sure your piece is meeting your expectations. (I’m happy to accommodate requests for changes, but excessive revisions that require more time and materials than anticipated will result in additional charges.)
Completion. Once your piece is completed, I will send you pictures of the final product. I’ll apply a protective varnish and attach hanging hardware to your piece, or a frame upon request. I’ll send you an invoice for the remaining payment, and ship your piece to you when it is paid. You’ll receive one last invoice to cover shipping costs.
Prices are determined by the amount of time that goes into your piece and the type of materials used. Together, we will decide on the final price of your piece before I begin work. Below is a sampling of sizes and current prices. Custom sizes are available.
